Introduction

Toons are the characters you actually control, and the roster is deliberately built around specialisation rather than raw power. Every Toon has five visible stats, Skill Check, Movement Speed, Stamina, Stealth and Extraction, plus an active and a passive ability, and the stat spread usually tells you the job before you read the ability text. A Toon with high Extraction and low Stealth is a repair specialist who should never be the one pulling a Twisted away. A Toon with high Speed and Stamina but poor Extraction is the opposite. Most unlock requirements combine a flat Ichor cost with a research threshold on a specific Twisted, which means your early Toon choices also determine which monsters you need to study first. This section covers the full roster, what each Toon is genuinely good at, and which unlocks are worth prioritising with limited Ichor.

Toon Roster

S

Astro

main

Main Toon — mobility and team stamina

AbilitiesNap Time restores stamina to nearby allies, which quietly raises the whole squad's escape ceiling on long floors. His passive keeps his detection radius low, so he can cross open ground that would expose a louder Toon and still reach the machine first.
Best UseAstro shines as a Distractor who also supports the repair crew, because he can pull a Twisted away and then top up a teammate's stamina on the way back. Pair him with a stamina Trinket and he becomes the most forgiving pick for a squad that keeps losing chases on Floor 20 plus.
S

Vee

main

Main Toon — top-tier extraction

AbilitiesVee has the best extraction stat line in the roster, and Mic Check plus Camera Hijack reveal Twisteds and machines across the floor. That information advantage is worth more than raw speed, because a squad that can see patrol routes stops walking into ambushes.
Best UsePlay Vee as the primary Extractor. She wants to stand on machines and let teammates handle distraction, and she is the strongest pick for farming Ichor quickly on organised runs. Do not volunteer her for kiting, because her kit is built around finishing repairs, not surviving chases.
S

Pebble

main

Main Toon — aggressive distraction loops

AbilitiesPebble is built around fast, repeatable distraction. His stat spread favours movement and stamina, so he can bait a Twisted into a long loop, break line of sight, and reset the chase before rejoining the team at the next machine rather than simply running until he is caught.
Best UsePebble is the pick when your squad has no dedicated Distractor and keeps getting interrupted mid-repair. He is also one of the best Toons to learn kiting on, because his speed gives you room to make a mistake and still escape, which makes practice far less punishing.

Core Mechanics

Every Toon combines five visible stats with one active and one passive ability, and the way those interact decides the role far more than the numbers alone. Skill Check sets how forgiving repairs are, Movement Speed and Stamina govern chases, Stealth controls how quickly a Twisted notices you, and Extraction Speed sets machine progress. Unlocks pair a flat Ichor cost with a research threshold on a specific Twisted, so choosing a Toon is also choosing which monster you must study next. The practical consequence is that roster progression and gameplay progression are the same system: farming research for a character you want teaches you how that character's Twisted counterpart behaves, which in turn makes you safer against it.

Advantages

The roster's specialisation is a genuine strength, because a squad built around clear roles clears far more floors than five generalists. A dedicated Extractor finishes machines while a Distractor holds attention, and support kits like healing or rescue abilities cover the mistakes that would otherwise end a deep run. Because most Toons are viable in the role their stats describe, the game avoids a single dominant pick and rewards understanding over spending. Cheap early unlocks such as Rodger also scale in value, since doubled research accelerates every later character and permanently improves your account's progression speed. That breadth also means a well-built roster covers every role without requiring a premium pick for each one.

Challenges

The same specialisation that makes the roster interesting also makes mispicks expensive. A Toon played outside its stat spread contributes almost nothing, and public lobbies frequently field five Extractors or nobody willing to kite, which is why so many runs collapse around Floor 20. Unlocks are gated behind research on specific Twisteds, so a player who wants a particular Main Toon may have to grind a monster they dislike fighting. Trinket purchases are permanent and role-specific, which raises the cost of experimenting, and Alpha balance changes can quietly demote a Toon you have invested in. Alpha changes also mean a Toon you invest in today can be rebalanced by the next patch, which makes long-term planning genuinely uncertain.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I unlock new Toons in Dandy's World?+
Most Toons need two things: a flat Ichor payment and a research threshold on a specific Twisted. For example Rodger costs 1000 Ichor and requires 50% research on any single Twisted, while Goob costs 1750 Ichor and additionally asks you to complete three mastery tasks tied to Scraps. That means collection progress and gameplay progress are linked, so spending early Ichor on a Toon you cannot research yet simply delays you.
What are the five Toon stats?+
Every Toon is rated on Skill Check, Movement Speed, Stamina, Stealth and Extraction Speed. Skill Check affects how forgiving the repair prompt is, Movement Speed and Stamina determine how long you can survive a chase, Stealth controls how easily Twisteds notice you, and Extraction Speed sets how fast machines are completed. Reading those five numbers tells you the intended role before you read a single ability description.
Which Toon should I unlock first?+
Rodger is the standard first unlock because he doubles Twisted research, which accelerates every other unlock you will ever chase. If you would rather survive than collect, an early distraction Toon makes public lobbies far less frustrating. Avoid expensive specialists until you have a research engine running, because a strong Toon you cannot use well is worse than a modest Toon played in the right role.

Quick Tips

💡

Do not judge a Toon by rarity alone. A Common Toon played in the correct role routinely outperforms a Main Toon forced into a job its stats do not support, and the stat spread is a far better guide than the label attached to the character. Check the five stats before the ability text, because the stat spread tells you the intended role even when a kit reads ambiguously on paper.

💡

Buy the Toon that matches the role your squad is missing, not the one at the top of a tier list. If nobody is distracting, an S-tier Extractor will still lose the floor, because the repair crew will spend the whole run running instead of repairing. Play a new Toon for several floors before judging it, since ability timing and movement feel only become clear once you have used the kit under real chase pressure.

💡

Test an unlock in a low-pressure public lobby before committing Trinkets to it. Ability timing and movement feel vary enough between Toons that a build which looks perfect on paper can feel wrong in practice, and Trinket purchases are not refundable. Keep one flexible, cheap Toon upgraded as a fallback so an unlucky team composition never leaves you without a role you can actually fill.
